The Uruguayan press regretted their defeat against Brazil 1-2 in the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte in the Confederations Cup semi-final match.

"What a pity! Courage should be rewarded," said local daily El Pais Thursday, adding that the team's performance was "the same as in 2010", when it won fourth position in the 2010 South Africa World Cup, reports Xinhua.

During the match played in Mineraio Stadium Wednesday, Brazil's Paulinho scored four minutes before the final game with the score reading 1-1.

El Pais highlighted that Uruguay was again "the team that does great effort, works, plays, attacks and defends in every moment".

"But it failed in decisive moments such as during Diego's penalty (Diego Forlan kicked a penalty which was stopped by Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar), and in those two balls in the final minutes of both halves (the Brazilian goals)," said El Pais.

Another Uruguayan daily El Observador, said: "The future is encouraging", after recalling that the team "lost the chance to play the tournament's final just five minutes before the end of the game," though Uruguay "is rewarded for recovering the lost identity."

Brazil's Fred scored the first goal at the end of the first half (40th minute) while Uruguay's Edison Cavani scored in the 48th minute 48.

Uruguay will play the match to define the third position Sunday in Salvador de Bahia against Italy, who lost against Spain Thursday.
