The US Capitol building in Washington, D.C., is on lockdown on Friday out of an abundance of caution due to police activity.
The people were asked to shelter in place as the police searched for a woman inside the Capitol, NBCWashington reported.
No one is being permitted to enter or exit until directed by US Capitol police. People inside were told to close, lock and stay away from the doors and windows, and to silence mobile phones.
Those inside were directed to move to their office's assigned shelter-in-place location or the innermost part of the office.
The House has gone into recess until the situation is resolved, reported NBC.
