US stocks fall amid data, earnings

US stocks traded mostly lower as investors mainly focused on earnings reports as well as economic data.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average on Monday shed 81.57 points, or 0.35 per cent, to 23,352.62, Xinhua news agency reported.

The S&P 500 lost 10.43 points, or 0.40 per cent, to 2,570.64. The Nasdaq Composite Index inched down 14.25 points, or 0.21 per cent, to 6,687.02.

US personal income increased $66.9 billion, or 0.4 per cent, in September, according to the Commerce Department on Monday.

In September, US disposable personal income (DPI) increased $53 billion, or 0.4 per cent, and personal consumption expenditures (PCE) increased $136 billion, or 1 per cent.

 

Meanwhile, investors continued to keep a close eye on earnings this week, with Apple, Tesla and Starbucks, among others, set to report.

US stocks posted gains for the last week as investors digested a slew of generally upbeat quarterly results amid economic data.
