Senior IAS officer Utpal Kumar Singh was on Tuesday named the new Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand.
According to officials, Singh who is currently posted in the Union Agriculture Ministry, will take charge either on Tuesday evening or Wednesday.
The 1986-batch Indian Administrative Service officer was a favourite in the B.C. Khanduri-led Bharatiya Janata Party government in the hill state and was Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister.
He has also held senior positions in departments like Higher Education, Public Works Department and Power.
An Uttarakhand cadre official, Singh belongs to Jharkhand. He replaces R. Ramaswamy, who sources said, was removed for his slack style of functioning.
