A gangster from Uttar Pradesh carrying a bounty of Rs.50,000 on his head and suspected to be involved in 15 dacoities was arrested here by the Delhi Police, an officer said Saturday.
Shadab Qureshi - who is wanted in more than 20 cases of robbery, dacoity and murder in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut, Ghaziabad and Muzaffar Nagar - was arrested from north Delhi's Ashok Vihar area Friday, police said.
Qureshi earlier had hideouts in east Delhi and north Delhi's Inderlok and Wazirpur areas.
"A trap was laid near Major Dhyan Chand Sports Complex in Ashok Vihar area where Qureshi stopped his car, came out and started walking," said Ravindra Yadav, additional commissioner of police (crime branch).
"He was asked to surrender by police team but he whipped out his pistol and fired at police in order to escape. After several rounds of retaliation firing, he was arrested," said the officer.
He disclosed his involvement in 15 dacoities, police said.
Qureshi, who earlier ran a meat shop in Meerut, entered the world of crime after coming in contact with Margoob, a local criminal, police said.
