Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's ashes were dissolved in the Subarnarekha river here on Thursday.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das, Union Minister Sudarshan Bhagat, state Cabinet Ministers and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders participated in the procession taken out from the BJP headquarters here.

Vajpayee's ashes were brought to Ranchi on Wednesday by BJP state President Laxman Gilua and BJP legislator Anant Ojha from New Delhi.

The ashes were kept in a decorated jeep in which senior BJP leader and Ranchi MP Ram Tahal Choudhary were present.

People gathered in large numbers to pay their respects to the former Prime Minister.

The ashes will also be dispersed in four other rivers, including the Ganges at Sahibganj district.
