Spanish goalkeeping great Iker Casillas has offered his support to Manchester United misfit Victor Valdes, insisting the custodian will enjoy his football when he leaves the English giants.

The shot stopper joined United in January this year, signing an 18-month deal, but has only made two competitive appearances. United manager Louis van Gaal has made it clear that the 33-year-old has no future at the club despite naming him in the 25-member English Premier League squad this season.

"I want to send all my support and a lot of encouragement to Victor. I know he will come out of this situation because he has a privileged mind and I really hope he comes out of this. I'm certain he will succeed because we all get back to enjoying ourselves (after leaving a club)," Casillas was quoted as saying by dailymail.co.uk on Monday.

Casillas himself endured a difficult end to his long association with Real Madrid before joining Portuguese club Porto this season. His compatriot and international team-mate, Valdes was close to joining Turkish outfit Besiktas but saw the move collapse after their manager pulled the plug on the deal.

"This is proof that at times football is ungrateful. He deserves to find a solution soon because of the type of player he is. Had they told us a year-and-a-half ago that he would be in this situation, no one would have believed it," Casillas, who captained Spain to FIFA World Cup 2010 and two European titles in 2008 and 2012, said.
