Veteran sports journalist Sarathy dies

Veteran sports journalist A.T.P. Sarathy, 93, died of a lung infection and cardiac arrest at a hospital late here Saturday.

He was being treated for malaria at the hospital.

He is survived by two sons and two daughters, one of whom is Deccan Chronicle's Editor-in-Chief A.T. Jayanti.

Sarathy was a graduate from the Annamalai University and then went on to work for Bombay Chronicle, Bombay Sentinel, Indian Express and the now defunct The Daily. He also wrote for The Hindu group's Sport and Pastime, The Illustrated Weekly and authored the biography -- "Billiards King, Wilson Jones".

He was also the president of the Sports Journalists Association of Mumbai and Sports Journalists Federation of India.
