Former skipper Daniel Vettori's future with the New Zealand team is in doubt as the left arm spinner won't be considered for the series against India starting Jan 19.

Vettori, 35, is struggling with a back injury in the Twenty20 Big Bash in Australia with Brisbane Heats. He is taking painkilling injections to give him some relief.

Vettori's future will be decided after a meeting with New Zealand coach Mike Hesson and captain Brendon McCullum at the end of this month.

Vettori made a successful comeback from a Achilles surgery this season but things are looking bleak for him.

"I've spoken to Dan and he wants to come back from Australia and see how his body is, then have a good catch up with Brendon and I and chat about his future," Hesson told Dominion Post.

Hesson said Vettori won't be considered for the ODIs and the Test squad. Both the squads will be picked Wednesday.

Vettori refused to comment till after his meeting with Hesson and McCullum.

Recently, Vettori signed on as coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore, raising doubts over his playing career.
