Senior Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ashok Singhal's condition remains "very critical", a doctor said here on Sunday.

Singhal, who was referred on Friday night to Medanta - The Medicity hospital, is on life support at the Intensive Care Unit, the doctor told IANS on the condition of anonymity.

A team of physicians headed by Sanjay Mittal is treating Singhal.

"Singhal is being treated for cardiology and nephro problems. He has also developed problems in breathing," a source told IANS.

BJP president Amit Shah visited the hospital on Saturday. Other visitors included Home Minister Rajnath Singh and VHP leader Praveen Togadia.

A doctor said a few parameters of the patient were not responding as desired.

Singhal was also referred to the hospital a fortnight back, but he was discharged after he showed signs of improvement.

He was brought back on Friday as his condition deteriorated.

A statement issued by the VHP on Saturday said: "According to doctors, his condition is critical and he is under constant observation."
