Vice President Hamid Ansari's visit to Brunei, scheduled for Wednesday, has been delayed due to closure of Bali international airport in Indonesia following an eruption in the Mount Barujari volcano, officials said.
Ansari was scheduled to leave for Brunei at the invitation of Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah on the second and last leg of his tour to southeast Asia. In the first leg, he visited Indonesia from November 1 to 4, the vice president's secretariat said in a statement.
Ansari's visit to Brunei -- when it takes place -- shall be the first by an Indian vice president to the sultanate. Significantly, the petroleum and natural gas-rich nation has also not been visited by any Indian president or prime minister.
Crown Prince Al-Muhtadi Billah will host the vice president during his visit and he will also have an audience with Brunei's Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.
The vice president is also scheduled to interact with the Indian community here at a reception. He will also deliver a speech at the University of Brunei Darussalam.
