A victim of the Section 66A of the Information Technology Act expressed her happiness and welcomed the Supreme Court's verdict on its scraping.
Rinu Shrinivasan and Shaheen Dhada were arrested after posting content on the Mumbai shutdown after the death of Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray in 2012.
Rinu was upbeat after the apex court's verdict on Tuesday.
"My post didn't have any abusive content, people must feel free to express their opinion," media reports quoted Rinu Shrinivasan as saying.
"I am extremely happy that Supreme Court finally took the call and scraped the Section 66A of the IT Act. We live in a democratic nation where everyone should feel free to speak their mind even on social media," Shrinivasan said in an interview on news channel CNN-IBN.
"When I was arrested I was not even aware of any such section... I was scared of posting anything on Facebook or Twitter again. Now this decision of the Supreme Court will encourage people to express themselves," she added.
