Tourist arrivals in India grew 41.5 percent in October with 2,705 granted visa on arrival, up from 1,911 in October last year.

"During January to October 2014, a total number of 21,995 visa-on-arrivals (VoAs) were issued as compared to 15,770 during the corresponding period in 2013, a growth of 39.5 percent," the tourism ministry said.

The government launched the visa-on-arrival scheme in January 2010 for citizens of Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore visiting India for tourism.

The scheme was extended to Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Laos and Myanmar in January 2011. South Korea has been added to the list.
