Amid an ongoing crisis arising from toxic emissions data manipulation, German automaker Volkswagen has stopped the construction of a youth centre for Wolfsburg, the football club sponsored by it.
Wolfsburg manager Klaus Allofs confirmed on Tuesday to the regional public broadcaster NDR that financial support for construction of the centre will stop and spoke of his understanding for this measure, Efe reported.
A week ago, Allofs had expressed confidence that investment cuts announced by Volkswagen would not affect Wolfsburg.
The Bunedesliga club had planned to build the training centre for new players as an academy for the youth on a plot of 32 hectares where work was to begin in 2017.
