Counting of votes for 70 seats in the hill state of Uttarakhand began on Saturday morning.

At stake is the fate of 637 candidates, including 62 women.

Voting for 69 seats was held on February 15. Voting on one seat, Udham Singhnagar, took place on March 9 due to the death of a candidate.

Some 65 per cent of the 75.92 lakh voters exercised their franchise.

Both the ruling Congress and the BJP contested in all the 70 constituencies while the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) fielded 69 candidates. Thirty-six seats are needed here for a majority.
