A 48-year-old gunrunner, carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh for his arrest and wanted in four cases in the national capital, has been held from north Delhi, police said on Thursday.
As many as 11 pistols and 14 cartridges were seized from the possession of Richpal, who was into manufacturing and supply of illegal firearms in the Delhi National Capital Region and Maharashtra and even to Maoists in Telangana, police said.
Richpal was arrested from Nirankari Samagam Road in Burari area after a scuffle with police on late Monday night, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjeev Kumar Yadav told IANS.
Police said he was a kingpin of Madhya Pradesh-based gang, and was earlier arrested for supply of firearms, ammunition and hand grenades to Maoists in Telangana. He was wanted in four cases in Delhi, Yadav said.
Richpal, a resident of a village in Madhya Pradesh, told police he was involving in the illegal trade for more than 30 years. He said his father, six brothers and other family members were into manufacture of illegal firearms, Yadav said.
Police earlier arrested some of his gang members in Delhi.
