Wanted Odisha tribal leader surrenders

Nachika Linga, a tribal leader in Odisha wanted for more than 40 crimes including murder and rioting surrendered in the state's Koraput district Tuesday, police said.

Linga is the leader of Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha, which the police describe as a Maoist-backed local outfit mostly active in Narayanpatna block of the district, over 500 kms from state capital Bhubaneswar.

He was carrying a reward of Rs.5 lakh on his head, Inspector General of Police (south-western range) Yashwant Jethwa told IANS. In Narayanpatna police station alone, 26 non-bailable warrants were pending against him, he said.

"He surrendered today (Tuesday) to the police team. He will be arrested and produced in a local court," Jethwa said.
