Wanted gangster Dilpreet Singh Dhahan was arrested on Monday after a shootout during a joint operation of the Chandigarh Police and Punjab Police in Sector 43 here, police said.
The gangster, who was injured in the shootout, was admitted to the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) here.
A Chandigarh Police Crime Branch official said Dilpreet was going in a Maruti Swift car and was chased on a road near Inter-State Bus Terminus in Sector 43 by a police team led by Crime Branch Inspector Amanjot Singh.
According to the police, the Inspector hit Dilpreet's car with his SUV following which the gangster fired at police. In retaliatory fire, Dilpreet was injured and nabbed. The police said Dilpreet would be questioned soon.
Dilpreet, also referred to as Baba, had owned up the attack on popular Punjabi singer Parmish Verma of "Gaal Ni Kadni" and "Tor Naal Shada" fame in Mohali, adjoining Chandigarh, in April this year.
He was also an accused in the killing of a sarpanch (village headman) in Sector 38 in April last year.

Singer Parmish Verma was shot at by unidentified assailants when he was heading home from Chandigarh's Elante Mall late on the intervening night of April 13-14 this year.
While Verma and his friend were injured in the attack, the attackers fled from the spot. Dilpreet later claimed responsibility for the attack through a Facebook post.
