With a major share of revenues from after sales service generated from India, Finnish company Wartsila Corporation said on Thursday it has decided to focus more on this area.

The Indian subsidiary of the company, which makes gensets powered by different fuels like diesel and liquefied natural gas, has set up a control centre here wherefrom it can monitor its power plants and recommend preventive and corrective actions.

"The 5 billion euros revenue Wartsila Corporation generates around 2.2 billion euros from services," the firm's vice president, Middle East and Asia, Henri Van Boxtel told reporters here.

"The market for engines - for power and marine sectors - is difficult due to economic down turn and low freight rates for shipping lines," he said, adding that companies are not ready to order new power plants.

Wartsila currently monitors around 50 engines located within and outside India through its control centre here.

"This is an additional value proposition that we offer to our customers. They need not have highly qualified staff to take care of the machines as we will do the same remotely," Boxtel said.

Boxtel also said Wartsila has put up a 30kW solar power project in a village in Odisha.
