West Bengal Governor K.N. Tripathi, contradicting state Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee's claims that he was in the dark about the arrest of state minister Madan Mitra in the Saradha scam, Saturday said the CBI had informed him.

"Initially I was not informed, but later on the investigating agency informed me about the arrest," Tripathi told media persons here.

Chatterjee, who Friday led a delegation of state ministers to complain to Tripathi over the Central Bureau of Investigation's "motivated" probe into the Saradha scam, had asserted that neither the governor, nor the chief minister or the assembly speaker were informed about Mitra's arrest.

"The governor said neither he nor the Raj Bhawan knew about the arrest. Much like our chief minister (Mamata Banerjee) and assembly speaker were kept in dark about the arrest," Chatterjee had told the media after the meet with Tripathi.

Arrested on charges including criminal conspiracy, cheating Mitra Friday was denied bail and remanded to judicial custody till Jan 2 by a court. Later in the night, the minister was admitted to the state run SSKM Hospital after he complained of illness.

SSKM director Pradip Mitra Saturday said a medical board would be constituted Monday to ascertain the condition of Mitra currently admitted to the cardiology department.
