Actress Soha Ali Khan says that contrary to the reports she did not participate in Saifai Mahotsav cultural event at the ancestral village of Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

"Just for the record, I was not performing at Saifai as stated by some news reports," the daughter of veteran actress Sharmila Tagore tweeted Thursday.

The event, which concluded Wednesday, drew flak for the enormous money spent on it.

BSP leader and former chief minister Mayawati's aide Satish Chandra Mishra said the state exchequer's money was being wasted in Saifai while people were dying from severe cold in Muzaffarnagar relief camps.

Film stars Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit were said to have performed at Saifai.

Subhash Ghai's 'Kaanchi' to release April 11

Filmmaker Subhash Ghai has finally locked a release date for his new movie "Kaanchi" - it will hit the screens April 11.

The film, which stars Ghai's latest find Mishti and actor Kartik Aryan along with veterans Mithun Chakraborty and Rishi Kapoor, is about inner power of a woman who represents millions of suppressed youth against injustice in the country, said a statement issued by the filmmaker's banner Mukta Arts.

The film is directed and produced by Ghai, and its musical score is done by Ismail Darbar and Salim-Suleiman with lyrics by Irshad Kamil.

Ghai, known for movies like "Ram Lakhan", "Saudagar", "Khalnayak", "Pardes" and "Taal", was earlier in no hurry to announce a release date for "Kaanchi" - a mistake, he said, he had made with his last film "Yuvvraaj".

The filmmaker, who has earlier discovered talents like Manisha Koirala, Jackie Shroff and Mahima Chowdhary, is extremely upbeat about "Kaanchi" and about launching Bengali girl Mishti in Bollywood.
