The CBI on Thursday arrested a clerk working with the water resources ministry for taking bribes and promising jobs to 10 candidates in the finance ministry.
"It was alleged that the clerk demanded a bribe of Rs.2 lakh each from 10 candidates for providing them a Group D job in the finance ministry," said a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) official.
Upper divisional clerk (UDC) Shyamal Chakravarty, who was arrested from his residence in Delhi, had accepted Rs.6.5 lakh from the candidates. The rest of the amount was to be paid after they got the job.
A CBI team also searched his residence and seized incriminating documents.
