Bad weather and surging Ganga waters threw a spanner in the CBI efforts Saturday to exhume the bodies of Uttar Pradesh's Badaun gang-rape victims from the river bank.
The two teenaged cousins were gang-raped and hanged from a tree May 27 in Katra Sadatganj village of Badaun district.
Officials said, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team assisted by forensic experts arrived to take the mortal remains from the two "kacchi" graves at the Ataina Ghat, fortified with sand bags over the past few days, as the Ganga river is in spate.
However, bad weather and surging river waters hindered the process and till late Saturday evening, the bodies were yet to be located.
The process was earlier scheduled for Sunday but the investigative agency preponed it because of the rising river waters, which would have made things difficult.
Following extensive media coverage and national outrage, the state government had recommended the case to the CBI.
In its 35-day investigations so far, the CBI punched many holes in the initial post-mortem examinations conducted by Pushpakant Tripathi, Rajeev Gupta and Avdhesh Kumar.
