Huddersfield (England), Jan 12 (IANS/CMC) Bermudian striker Nahki Wells made a dream start for his new club Huddersfield Town coming off the bench to score in the final minute as the Terriers beat relegation-threatened Millwall 1-0 in a Championship match at the John Smith's Stadium here.

The last-gasp goal -- Wells' 16th of the season -- provided an instant return on the club record fee of £1.3 million the West Yorkshire outfit paid neighbours Bradford City of League 1 for the signature of the Bermuda international.

Wells, who scored 15 goals for Bradford in all competitions this season before moving up a division Friday, came off the bench in the 56th minute to break the deadlock with a right-foot shot from a tight angle stunning Millwall, who have lost five of their last six matches.

Wells hooked in the winner after Millwall failed to clear a corner. The victory lifted Huddersfield one place to 12th, five points off a play-off place.

Wells, 23, was adamant before kick-off that his transfer to Huddersfield was the "right move".

Wells, who had been at Bradford City since July 2011, put an end to all transfer speculation when he signed a four and a half year deal with Huddersfield after a host of clubs expressed interest in signing him.

"It might surprise a few people but I just thought it was the right move for my footballing career to learn my trade in the Championship. I see Huddersfield moving in the right direction and I just think it will work out well for me there," Wells said.

Asked if he still has ambitions of playing Premier League, Wells said: "That's why I chose Huddersfield and I think it can be a great platform to get there. But the task at hand is to learn my trade in the Championship, stay level-headed, do the best I can and hopefully the opportunity will come for me."

Huddersfield's previous club record transfer fee was the £1.2 million they paid Bristol Rovers for striker Marcus Stewart in the summer of 1996.
