Bremen have signed central defender Luca Caldirola from Inter Milan until June 2017.

Italy's Under-21 international team captain Caldirola will consolidate Bremen's defence for the upcoming season as he put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Germans Wednesday. The former Inter Milan central defender played for second division side Brescia Calcio on loan recently, reports Xinhua.

"Luca is an interesting player. Despite his young age he has plenty of experience. He is technically skilled and creative. We are delighted that he settled for Bremen," manager Thomas Eichin said.

"Bremen is a great opportunity for me. When my agent told me about Bremen's interest I immediately told him that I would like to complete the transfer. The club has a great tradition. I am looking forward to the next years," the 22-year-old Italian said.

Werder Bremen finished the past Bundesliga season on a disappointing 14th place with just 34 points.
