The workers' salaries in around 28 tea gardens and jute mills of West Bengal have been delayed due to demonetisation that has hit the two sectors hard, the state government said here on Tuesday.
Replying to questions in the state assembly, Labour Minister Moloy Ghatak said the two sectors' operations have suffered following the central government's decision to ban Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 currency notes.
However, none of the companies or factories has downed shutters after the November 8 demonetisation announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
But many of the factories were hard put to sustain their operations and could move towards closure.
