Indian Army's Western Army commander, Lt Gen. Surinder Singh, on Saturday reviewed the preparedness of troops guarding the international border in Jammu region, a defence statement said.
Lt. Gen. Surinder Singh visited Rising Star Corps on Saturday and reviewed the operational preparedness of the Army in the Jammu-Pathankot region, the statement said, adding he emphasised on ensuring fool proof security measures.
"He visited forward areas in Jammu, Samba and Pathankot where he interacted with field commanders and troops in the area and appreciated the efforts of Army units and formation," it said.
"He reiterated the need to maintain a high order of operational preparedness and alertness," it added.
The Western Army commander also visited the Northern Command headquarters in Udhampur town and interacted with his counterpart, Lt. Gen. D.S. Hooda, the statement said.
Though most of Jammu and Kashmir comes with the ambit of the Northern Command, a small area of the Jammu plains is the responsibility of the Chandimandir (Chandigarh)-headquartered Western Command.
