With terrorists targeting families of defence personnel at army camps in Jammu and Kashmir, the Western Command has started imparting self-defence training to the families of serving personnel, official sources said on Tuesday.
"The Western Command has taken the initiative to impart self-defense training to the families of serving personnel in view of attacks on Army camps at Sunjuwan and Nagrota wherein the families of serving defense personnel became soft targets for militants," a defence spokesman said here.
The EME (Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers) unit at Chandimandir near here organised a training session wherein trained professionals from a martial arts academy demonstrated self-defence skills to women and children of the defense personnel, the spokesman added.
The Western Command of the army defends the western frontier along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, and Rajasthan. It also has some part of the India-China border in Himachal Pradesh under its jurisdiction.
