Harvesting of wheat was affected in several parts of Haryana and Punjab on Tuesday after both states experienced more rain since morning.

Several districts in both states saw light to moderate rain throughout the day.

The day temperatures dipped over the region by up to 11 degrees.

Farmers, who have been bearing the brunt of unseasonal rain since last month, were upset with the latest round of rainfall.

"At most places, the wheat crop has not ripened enough to be harvested. At places where it is ready for harvest, the rainfall has added to moisture content in the grains," said agriculturist Shamsher Singh of Banur near Chandigarh.

Authorities in Punjab and Haryana, the food grain states of the country, are expecting a dip of up to 10 percent in wheat output this season.

The maximum temperature at most places across Punjab and Haryana hovered around 22 degrees. This was 11 degrees below normal.

"The weather has turned very pleasant and enjoyable. I hope it remains like this for a few more days," said Chandigarh resident Rohan Chadha.

Weather officials said that the rainy conditions are likely to prevail over the region for the next 24 hours.
