A nine-year-old white tiger succumbed to injuries it suffered in a bloody fight with two Royal Bengal tigers in the city zoo, said an official on Thursday.

"Shreyas, 9, succumbed on Wednesday night to injuries it incurred in a ferocious fight with two Bengal tigers who sneaked into its enclosure in the safari on September 17," Bannerghatta Biological Park Executive Director Santosh Kumar said in a statement here.

The sprawling National Park on the city's southern outskirts has been home to the big cats over the years along hundreds of other animals, including lions, leopards, elephants and sloth bears.

Though Shreyas was under treatment for the deep wounds it received during the brawl in the spinal cord and thoracic region, it showed signs of recovery and started eating before suddenly succumbing, said Santosh Kumar.

Shreyas was born in the park on January 24, 2008.

Another white tiger Amar is, however, recovering from the injuries it also suffered in the territorial fight.
