The World Health Organisation (WHO) has called for the release of a doctor kidnapped in the southern Libyan city of Sabha last week by an unknown group, a media report said.
"WHO has received reports from the Sabha Medical Center on recent kidnapping of one of its doctors. WHO urges all to refrain from attacking health workers and facilities, as required by international humanitarian law," Xinhua news agency quoted the organisation as saying in a statement on Monday.
WHO called upon the parties responsible for the Libyan doctor's kidnapping in Sabha to ensure his safety and immediate release
"WHO strongly condemns kidnapping of health workers as well as any other attacks on medical personnel and health facilities."
The organisation also condemned attacks on medical facilities and staff in Libya, which "negatively affect health care delivery and deprive civilians in need from receiving health services".
