A widow was set on fire in a village in Madhya Pradesh's Betul district allegedly by her relatives in a bid to force her to vacate her house.
A Multai police station official told reporters that Phoolvanti Prajapati, the widow, is a resident of Dunawa village and has a son and a daughter. Her son is serving a jail term and the daughter is married.
According to Phoolvanti, her sister-in-law and her husband wanted to take possession of her house since coming to stay with her along with two others a few months ago. Since she did not give in to their consistent demand, three of them -- Neelu, Basant and Pintu -- set her on fire on Wednesday by pouring kerosene oil on her.
She suffered 50 percent burns and has been hospitalised.
