Wild card Jatin Dahiya stole the show in the opening round of the men's singles qualifying draw at the ongoing Central Excise ITF Futures $15,000 meet being held at the synthetic courts of the Bengal Tennis Association on Saturday.
Dahiya, took little time to drub eighth seed Lance Pierre Du Toit of South Africa, by an easy 6-2,6-3 to enter the final qualifying round, which will be played on Sunday.
He will meet compatriot Paramveer Singh in the final qualifying. Paramveer got the better of USA's Tyler Hochwalt by a straight 7-5, 6-1.
The other top eight seeds did not falter, as they progressed to the final qualifying round.
Most of the other wild card entrants could not live up to the expectations as Anurag Agarwal, Alex Solanki, Anshu Bhuyan and Rikhardt Bierman were made to bite the dust in the opening day of the championship.
