Local wild cards Shivani Ingle and Rian Pundole created upsets along with three other Indians to make it to the third round of the Gadre-MSLTA ITF Junior Tennis Championships at the Mhalunge Balewadi Tennis stadium here Tuesday.
While Mumbaikar Pundole ousted state mate and eighth seed Aditya Gokhale 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 in a three hour tussle, Assam player and former India junior No.1 Parikshit Somani upset 11th seeded A Ramakrishnan 6-2 ,6-3 to also move into the third round in the boys section.
Pune girl Shivani upset 11th seed S. Sudhir 6-1, 6-4 as another Indian Sama Sathwika upset ninth seed Lexie Stevens of the Netherlands 6-3, 6-1.
Sabhyata Nihalani kept up the good work of Indian players, toppling Belgian 15th seed Vicky Geurinckx 6-1, 6-1.
Soha Sadiq also registered a credible 6-4,7-5 win over Korean Jang Eun Se, while fourth seed Vasanti Shinde survived a close contest overcoming Indra Devarakonda 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to move into the third round.
