Known for directing path-breaking films such as "Tahaan" and "Malli", cinematographer-filmmaker Santosh Sivan, says he will direct commercial films with stars when he runs out of scripts that are close to his heart.
"Because I make films close to my heart doesn't mean I don't enjoy other kind of films. When I'm not shooting films, I work as a cinematographer for 'mass' films. When I'm done with all the scripts that are very close to my heart, I'll make commercial films with stars," Sivan told IANS.
He finds them fun.
"It's great fun to enter into commercial films' narrative. I think commercial films are interesting because it's somewhere an extension of our old way of storytelling with songs and dances. Everything has that charm," he said.
However, Sivan says commercial films are time-consuming.
"I still have a few small films I want to make. Moreover, commercial films take too long to be completed and I can't afford to spend so much time on a project. So before I start making commercial films, I should ensure I have ample time," he added.
