The Election Commission Friday said it would take a decision on holding assembly election in flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir only after normalcy is restored in the state.

"We are watching the situation very closely. After things come to shape, a decision will be taken," Chief Election Commission V.S. Sampath told the media here.

He said that the Jammu and Kashmir assembly completes its term in January 2015 so there was ample time.

Informed sources in Srinagar told IANS that the polls were unlikely to be held this year in the view of the natural calamity.

Over 200 people have been killed in the worst-ever floods seen in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 60 years.
