German football club VfL Wolfsburg on Wednesday said that Dutch striker Bas Dost has suffered a metatarsal fracture in his left foot during training in Portugal.
Dost suffered the injury following a tackle during a training session in Lagos, Portugal. The player is on his way back to Germany to undergo another medical examination, reports Xinhua.
"We currently assume that Bas needs a surgery," Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs told the club's official website.
If a surgery is needed, the striker will be out of action for "at least six weeks".
Dost's injury may force the Wolfsburg management to look for other options on the transfer market, as they have only two remaining strikers with Max Kruse, who scored five goals so far, and Niklas Bendtner, who is heavily linked with english Premier League (EPL) clubs in the last days.
The seventh placed Worlfsburg face struggling Frankfurt for the 18th round in Bundesliga on January 24.
