A housewife in West Bengal's East Midnapore district was arrested Sunday after her alleged paramour hacked to death four members of her husband's family, police said. The killer is still at large.
The incident happened late Saturday night in Mahisadal in the district, some 100 km from Kolkata. Enraged after being warned against continuing the alleged affair, the man hacked four of the family, including her parents-in-law.
"We have arrested the woman who allegedly has an extramarital affair with the killer. We are looking for him and will arrest him soon," said Superintendent of Police Sukesh Jain.
According to a relative of the victims, the killer - a neighbour - used to regularly visit her house and allegedly developed illicit relations despite repeated warnings by the in-laws of the woman.
"The man had entered the house Saturday night once again. When the father-in-law protested there was an heated argument following which he attacked him and other family members with a sharp-edged weapon and fled," said the man.
