A woman committed suicide Tuesday evening by jumping on a metro track as the train was entering the station, police said.

The incident was reported around 3.48 p.m. from Race Course metro station.

"The woman, who appeared to be in her 20s, jumped on the track from platform number two of Race Course metro station. She was hit by a train coming from Huda City Centre and going towards Jahangirpuri," said a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) official.

The woman was later identified as Murtaza, a resident of Najafgarh in west Delhi.

"Murtaza, who was last year pursuing a B.A. programming course, was identified from a library card issued from west Delhi's Kalindi college," said the official.

"The reason behind the act is yet to be ascertained as no suicide note was recovered from the victim's possession," the official said.

The CISF official told IANS that they had also foiled a suicide bid of an 18-year-old girl Monday evening after her aimless roaming in IFFCO Chowk metro station (in neighbouring Gurgaon)came to their attention. A suicide note was found on her.

"The woman, a resident of Mehrauli in south Delhi, was later handed over to police," said the official.
