A woman member of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) and suspected to be a leader of the group has been arrested from the West Bengal capital, police said Saturday.
"Joyeeta Das, a member of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist), was arrested Friday and some incriminating documents seized from her," the special task force of the city police said in a release.
Das was nabbed from South Kolkata's Charu Market area following a tip-off.
Das, a member of the Matangini Mahila Samiti, will be presented in court Saturday. She is likely to be booked under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
