Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged the international community to unite against terrorism.

"We stand united in strongly condemning the dreadful acts of terror in Paris," Modi said at a meeting of the BRICS, two days after Islamic State terrorists massacred nearly 130 people in the French capital.

"Entire humanity must stand together and be one against terrorism," Modi added.

Modi said New Delhi attached the highest importance to BRICS, a grouping of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

"We want to build on the great work done by other members," a tweet from the Prime Minister's Office quoted him as saying.

He said the need of the hour was to come out with "responsive, inclusive and collective solutions... This will be the theme when India assumes chairmanship of BRICS".
