Already out of contention for a place in play-offs, Kolkatta Knight Riders is keen to finish off this Indian Premier League (IPL) with a win against Sunrisers Hyderabad here Sunday, its coach said.
"It is a must-win game for us. We would like to finish with a win. It has not been greatest tournament for us. We didn't play as well as last year. We would like to finish off with a positive," KKR coach Trevor Bayliss told reporters at Rajiv Gandhi international stadium, where the last year's champions had a practice session ahead of their last match Sunday.
With just 12 points from 15 points, KKR are placed seventh on the points table and would finish at the same position irrespective of the result of their last match.
"Our target is to play well. We have been up and down this season. We have played some good matches but we played some poor matches as well. We would like to finish off on a high. Play some good cricket tomorrow. Win, lose or draw we would like to finish on high. We know if we play well we can beat anyone in the competition," said the coach.
Asked about the reasons for poor performance this year, the Australian said the team was not consistently good like last year. "Early in season we didn't score enough runs at the top. The young guys in the middle order didn't score as many runs as they would have liked. We have been inconsistent. We bowled well early in the tournament. There were few games in the second half of the tournament we haven't bowled well."
