Wrongfully arrested persons should not only be released forthwith, but should be suitably compensated and rehabilitated to lead a normal life, Minister of State for Home R.P.N. Singh Tuesday told parliament.

"The government is always positively inclined to consider rehabilitation of innocent victims, so that innocent persons can be reintegrated into society," he said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.

The minister also said wrongfully arrested persons should not only be released forthwith, but should be suitably compensated and rehabilitated to join the mainstream in order to lead a normal life of dignity.

Singh said all states should constitute special courts in consultation with the high courts concerned for trial of terror-related cases on a day to day basis.

"The terror cases should take precedence over other cases pending trial before such special courts," he said.

"In all cases of malafide arrest of any member of a minority community by the law enforcement agencies, strict and prompt action should be taken against the erring police officials," he said.
