China is willing to join hands with the US to improve their relationship and push it forward on the right track, Chinese President Xi Jinping said here on Friday.

The China-US relationship is one of the most important bilateral ties in the world, Xi said when holding talks with his US counterpart Barack Obama at the White House, reported Xinhua.

Since it was established 36 years ago, the China-US relationship has gone through a tortuous journey, but it has always moved forward and has achieved historic development, he added.

Recalling that he and Obama reached consensus on building a new type of major-country relations between their countries at their Annenberg estate summit in June 2013, Xi said that bilateral ties have kept making new progress in the recent two years, bringing abundant benefits to the two nations and the world at large.

The president said that China is willing to work together with the US to adhere to non-conflict, non-confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation; constantly expand practical cooperation at bilateral, regional and global levels; and manage differences and sensitive issues with constructive means, so as to ensure that bilateral ties will always move ahead on the right track.

Before flying to the US capital, Xi concluded a busy two-and-a-half-day stay in the West Coast technology and aviation hub of Seattle.

The Chinese president will be in New York from September 26 to 28 for a series of summits and meetings marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the UN.
