Xiaomi Redmi 5 with 18:9 display now in India

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi on Wednesday launched "Redmi 5" in India with 18:9 display for Rs 7,999 for the base variant with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage.

"Redmi 5" has 7.7-mm metal body which makes it the slimmest smartphone in the Redmi series and has a 5.7-inch screen for an immersive viewing experience, the company said in a statement.

The device will be available in a weekly sale starting March 20 across Mi.com, Amazon and Mi Home stores for Rs 8,999 and Rs 10,999 for 3GB and 32GB storage and 4GB with 64GB internal memory variants, respectively.

"Our partner @reliancejio is offering an amazing offer for all #Redmi5 users: INR 2,200 instant cashback + 100 GB of additional data!," tweeted Manu Kumar Jain, Global Vice President and Managing Director, Xiaomi India.

 

"#Redmi5 is an overall upgrade to Redmi 4 and a worthy successor," Jain added.

The smartphone will also be made available across all Xioami's offline partners in the coming weeks, the company said in a statement.

The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 Octa-core processor with 14nm "FINFET" technology.

There is a 12MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera with LED selfie-light. A 3,300mAh battery fuels the device.
