Banned terror outfit Indian Mujahideen (IM) co-founder Yasin Bhatkal's associate Fasih Mahmood was allegedly attacked by a Tihar Jail inmate, an official said Saturday.

He said an inmate identified as Simran, a murder accused lodged in jail number two, assaulted Mahmood Friday evening.

"Mahmood sustained injury on his leg following the attack over some issue. He was taken to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital later," said Tihar Jail spokesperson Sunil Gupta.

The official added Mahmood was brought back to the jail Friday itself after a check-up and lodged in jail number two.

Mahmood was brought before a Delhi court today (Saturday) on a wheel chair in connection with a case regarding his involvement in terror activities," said the official.

Mahmood was deported from Saudi Arabia in 2012.

Mahmood along with Bhatkal and several other IM members are accused in the case in which a supplementary charge sheet was filed against the latter and one of his close aides Asadullah Akhtar.
