Operation Rahat to evacuate Indians from strife-torn Yemen has been extended by a day, the government said on Wednesday.
The operation, which was to end on Wednesday, was extended till Thursday as officials said there were requests from a group of nurses stuck there.
"Responding to needs of 140 nurses India extends air evacuation from Yemen by a day. Flights planned for tomorrow also, subject to clearances," external affairs ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin tweeted.
Defence ministry spokesperson Sitanshu Kar, meanwhile, said an Indian Air Force plane has been delayed to accommodate more nurses.
"C-17 flight of IAF from Djibouti (earlier ETA 1900 Hrs) has been delayed to accommodate more evacuees including nurses," Kar tweeted.
Over 4,000 Indian nationals have been evacuated from Yemen so far.
