Youth beaten to death by police in Jharkhand, says family

A young man was beaten to death by police here after being detained on suspicion of being linked to Maoists, according to a complaint his family made to the police headquarters.

Rupesh alias Chotu Swamy was detained here by the police on Thursday evening while on his way to a shop where he worked, the complaint said.

He was held on suspicion of being associated with Maoist guerrillas and was brutally beaten up in the police station, they said.

Rupesh was admitted on Friday to Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) where he was declared dead by the doctors, according to the complaint.

 

Based on the complaint, Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Dwivedi has suspended Ashok Prasad and Pankaj Kumar, who were in charge of the Rahe and Dasham police stations.

A probe has also been ordered.
