Several Youth Congress activists were detained on Monday while heading towards the Parliament House to protest over the issue of intolerance, police said.
Hundreds of Youth Congress activists gathered outside the Parliament Street police station to raise issue of intolerance following a brief adjournment of the Lok Sabha after CPI-M member Mohammad Salim attributed some remark to Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
"The protestors were protesting without permission and they were trying to march towards the Parliament House. Several of them have been detained and taken to the Parliament Street police station," a police official said.
Earlier during the day, the Lok Sabha was adjourned following differences between opposition members and those on the treasury benches over Mohd. Salim saying that Rajnath Singh had told a magazine that in Narendra Modi India had a Hindu ruler after 800 years.
Rajnath Singh, however, denied the claim, saying: "I have never been so much hurt in my parliamentary life. If a home minister makes such comments, he has no right to be on his post."
