A young man was arrested here on Sunday on the charge of disturbing public peace by climbing an overhead water tank in support of 'love jihad' murder accused Shambhulal Raigar and threatening to commit suicide.

After his arrest under Section 151 of the Indian Penal Code for disturbing peace and harmony, accused Anshul Dadheech was later sent in one-day judicial custody.

Dadheech, 26, climbed atop the water tank here and raised slogans in support of Raigar, who had murdered Ashraful, a contractual worker from West Bengal, and made his minor nephew videotape the entire crime.

Draped in a saffron flag, Dadheech also threatened to commit suicide and demanded Raigar's release. Onlookers called the police, which along with the gathered crowd urged the young man to come down.

Informed sources said Dadheech is a member of a Hindu group for the last many years.

On the other hand, police had a different take on the matter.

Subhash Chowk police station SHO Rajendra Singh Shekhawat said that Dadheech -- a resident of Sitaram Bazaar area -- was "mentally unstable".

"When we reached the spot, we convinced him to climb down. When he came down, we asked him why he had climbed atop the water tank. He said he felt like committing suicide over a family issue," Shekhawat added.

Shekhawat said he works as a contractual staff at the SMS Hospital here. When questioned how someone working in the physiotherapy department of the hospital could be mentally unstable, police said the accused had himself said he was suffering from some mental problem.

Dadheech's video clipping atop the water tank was going viral on social media at the time of the filing of this report.

Shambhunath Raiger had brutally killed and burnt Ashraful and dubbed the murder as revenge for 'love jihad'. Shambhunath had presented himself in many videos as a hardcore Hindu fanatic.
